University branding is not only strategic, it is fun. Competition for students among public universities (outside of the flagship, University of Illinois) was fierce. Setting EIU apart from everyone else required deep knowledge of the personality of the campus. Once we were able to translate that voice and personality to visual communication, the transformation to the community and to campus’ physical spaces was remarkable. Prospects and their families were always stopping to read posters and look at photos. The branding was complete when the personality of the real people mirrored the warmth of the many visuals and messages.
